Kowalski Dougherty Carissa Jewelry design
Jewelry is commonly perceived as a beautiful piece of wearable art: stand-alone, sculptural, and aloof. However, in order to understand contemporary jewelry design, we need to view the work as we would the product of any design field: as conceptual projects, as material studies, as social commentaries, and as connections to the past. The various creations by international designers presented in this book give us an outline on current trends and developments in the field of jewelry. Their work is presented as a snapshot of individual practices, a broad sampling of innovative creations and forward-looking designers. What unites them are everyday considerations on context and production. Pictures as well as information on crafting techniques and materials underline the infinite creative potential of jewelry design. An index with contact information is enclosed.

Kindergartens, schools & playgrounds
Growth, development, behavior... All these words are inseparable when speaking about education. Studies show that human development is especially transcendent during the early years, and indicate that the physical environment where this growth occurs is also very relevant. This is why schools, kindergartens and institutes of secondary education are being analyzed and studied from various points of view, including an architectural one. This volume contains a selection of educational centers from around the world that combine technological and constructive aspects with the creation of atmospheres that are suitable for students. For both children and teenagers these centers are places that are full of creativity and imagination, where they can develop as people and complete their education.

Paredes Cristina Sketch: Public Buildings: How Architects Conceive Public Architecture
Public buildings are constructions designed to provide specific services to a population. They have a very important social, political and cultural value and their architecture should represent these values, too. In architecture, a sketch is considered to be a drawing that describes a diagram of a project to be built. What adds importance to architectural sketches is the relationship established between drawing and architecture. Architects use sketches as a tool for approaching their projects, to begin to give shape to the image they have in their heads. But whatever the material and support used, the aim is always to record the most significant features of each building. This volume not only demonstrates the importance of the sketch as a work of art and idea in itself, but also shows the creative process to the end result. The following pages explore the phase that begins with the sketch, goes on to include models and renderings and eventually reaches the final plans. Издание на английском языке.

French Workplace Design
In the new "Tolbiac Massena" quarter, around the French National Library, the architect Marc Rollinet has designed one of the first office developments on the new Avenue de France. The result is a new generation office complex of approximately 25 000 m2, currently housing the offices of the French national railways in four buildings. The buildings are linked by enclosed foot bridges. They surround a central monumental paved area covered by an immense glazed roof. The paving reflects light into the restaurant and cafeteria on the ground floor and into the offices on the upper levels. The interior atmosphere is warm, calm and light. The carefully accentuated interior design assures a continuity of style and materials. American cherry wood panelling on a white background, like giant pictures hung on the wall, breaks up the rhythm and creates different reception and waiting spaces. Duran Sergi Costa Hign Density Housing Architecture
The pressure exerted on cities in recent decades is extremely evident. There is no need for one to consult official statistics to realize that cities are turning into the place where most of the population prefers to live and work. Residing downtown or in inner city areas, where business and cultural activities are to be found, is very practical and with more advantages than those that were to be had in suburban areas only a few years ago. Employment is also concentrated in urban areas, and this explains the progressive population decline in rural areas of developed countries. "High Density Housing Architecture" shows different types of multi-residential buildings situated in urban centers as a metaphor for the growing overcrowding of cities and for what some call the 'new global lifestyle'. These pages document some twenty-five low and high density residential projects in cities such as Istanbul, New York, Tokyo, Mexico City and Sydney. Издание на английском языке.

Fajardo Julio Mega Malls
One single word best sums up human behaviour over the past 150 years: consumption. And the unbridled frenzy with which humankind has come to need newer things at a quicker pace has found its ultimate expression in the mall. The mall concept was invented in Europe in the late 19th century - in the form of shopping arcades - and has evolved to become the huge complexes that we see today. In "Mega Malls", we see that the mall has become a place where we can satisfy even the most insignificant of our needs, and for many years now this has involved much more than simply supplying ourselves with food or any other item imaginable. As shown in the variety of projects selected in this compilation - chosen from among the most impressive shopping centres in the world - the mall has become a place offering shopping and entertainment in equal doses. Through the full-coloured images and illustrations in "Mega Malls", it is not hard to see how malls have become an all-encompassing feature in our lives. Литература на английском языке.

Knutson Anne, Foster Kathleen, Taylor Michael, Crosman Christopher Andrew Wyeth
Prior to the 1960s, Andrew Wyeth enjoyed a stellar reputation as a rising star in the art world. Since then, critics and scholars have largely ignored him. Wyeth, however, who is age 88 at the date of publication, has continued to paint, to the delight of his admirers, collectors, and the art-loving public. Now, in association with the High Museum exhibition, Andrew Wyeth: Memory & Magic takes a fresh look at the work of one of America's most beloved artists. In examining his entire oeuvre, the book celebrates the artist's ongoing love affair with everyday life-domestic, natural, and architectural. Found throughout Wyeth's work, these objects form patterns that illuminate core themes and reveal the artist wrestling with issues of memory, temporality, embodiment, and the metaphysical. Organized chronologically and thematically, the book explores how the artist's approach to these subjects was formed in his early career, and has been revisited in new and surprising ways in recent years. Andrew Wyeth: Memory & Magic comprises 150 tempera paintings and 50 drawings and watercolors-including his most-famous works, but also many published here for the first time.
Briger Paul, Briger Cris Briger + Briger: Comfortable and Joyous Homes, City, Country and Lakeside
Designing a contemporary residence in the twenty-first century doesn't require rejection of all that has preceded it. For any residence, design considerations should begin with the recognition of how to live and what to be surrounded with, without being bound to traditional rules. Rich eighteenth-century silks on furniture of the same era, for example, can appear strikingly modern on an uncovered, unstained wooden floor flanked with pale-colored walls. What produces a contemporary residence lies in the editing of its contents-not in the period items with which it is filled. The American design firm Briger + Briger shows how to remain true to the spirit of the present while combining the most striking furnishings of the past with modern pieces and humble yet interesting objects from every era. What is achieved is a new refinement in living. Three handsome residences-a spacious city house, a grand country house, and a contemporary lakeside retreat-are lavishly presented in three hundred glorious images by esteemed photographer Michel Zabe. Each interior is crafted with an appealing array of antiques and fine art, modern and period furnishings, and whimsical touches. Attractive table settings for entertaining both indoors and outdoors are also presented. In addition, these welcoming residences display equally interesting and inviting outdoor spaces, from formal gardens to container plantings on small terraces. There are countless ideas for personal self-expression for any environment. Much more than a decorating guide, this beautiful volume is a design for comfortable and joyous living.

Waldie D. J. California Romantica
California Romantica features the most important, yet rarely seen, residential exemplars of the California Mission and Spanish Colonial styles, by such noted architects as George Washington Smith, Wallace Neff, Richard Requa, Lilian Rice, and Paul R. Williams, among others. From whitewashed stucco walls and cloistered patios to tile roofs and sumptuous gardens, each house shown is a rare masterpiece, splendidly appointed with authentic Monterey furniture, California tile, and Navajo rugs. Among the magnificent seaside estates, canyon villas, and courtyard bungalows shown is Diane Keaton's former home in Beverly Hills, which she thoughtfully restored with noted designer Stephen Shadley, and for which she has been recognized as a committed preservationist. She brings her cinematic eye, a keen sense of natural drama, and a profound appreciation for the nuances of shadow and light to the elucidation of these buildings, through the selection of specially commissioned photography. Authoritative text by D. J. Waldie lucidly explicates the architecture and provides an intimate tour of a historic and distinctly Californian lifestyle. Литература на английском языке.

Rinfret Cindy Classic Greenwich Style
Greenwich is one of the most exclusive and desirable communities in America. With houses that are among the country's most beautiful examples of colonial, Tudor, and English country style, Greenwich is known for a standard of beauty and luxury that demonstrates a life well lived, and homes with furnishings that are meant to be well lived in. Greenwich style may have grown out of a look that is associated with the town and the houses in it, but its philosophy may be used anywhere. Greenwich style means built for forever. It is meant for generations of children and holidays to be shared under one roof, unchanging in its relevance even while those within the walls grow and change. Greenwich maintains its distinct style without succumbing to the trends that so quickly change society and disappear soon after. This book offers a selection of homes that coveted designer Cindy Rinfret has designed in or around Greenwich-in town, off the Sound, in the country-as well as a home or two located elsewhere but decorated in the tradition of Greenwich style. Her approach is universal, as it always centers around the lifestyle of a family, and takes into consideration both appearance and functionality. By opening these doors, she shows homeowners and decorators who covet the look and style of her work how they can can create it for themselves. All-new photography invites readers insde the eleven homes in the book, from their long, tree-lined driveways through their gracious entryways and into their classically elegant rooms. This book is not about a place but about a style that remains fresh and relevant today while also showing tinges of the history that has cultivated its vibrancy and richness. The homes of Greenwich reflect well-placed values and welcome friends and family with an air of warmth, generosity, and grace.

Frank Lloyd Wright the Buildings
Frank Lloyd Wright: The Buildings, a companion volume to Rizzoli's Frank Lloyd Wright: The Houses, features the great non-residential masterpieces of architecture by this American genius. Wright's major projects are here showcased, including such seminal works as the Guggenheim Museum in New York, Price Tower in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Marin County Civic Center in San Rafael, California, Unity Temple in Oak Park, Illinois, Florida Southern College in Lakeland, Florida, and Taliesin West in Scottsdale, Arizona. Included also is stunning archival imagery of the great demolished buildings, such as the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo and Midway Gardens in Chicago, as well as inspiring visions conceived and drawn by Wright, among them The Baghdad Opera House and The Mile High "Illinois," to name only a few. In Frank Lloyd Wright: The Buildings, extensive, all-new photography shows the buildings to an extent rarely seen (including such little-known gems as Beth Sholom Synagogue, Kalita Humphreys Theater, R. W. Lindholm Service Station, and many others) while rich text by author Alan Hess coupled with insightful essays by Wright scholars David G. De Long and Kathryn Smith uncover the great innovative richness of the master architect's non-residential work, ultimately inviting a reevaluation of the architectural legacy of this almost mythical figure.

Mayne Thom Fresh Morphosis 1998-2004
THOM MAYNE, winner of the 2005 Pritzker Architecture Prize, founded the influential firm Morphosis in the early 1970s. Over the past three decades Morphosis has maintained an avant-garde presence among contemporary architecture firms even as it has garnered high-profile, big-budget commissions around the world. Since Rizzoli published the first volume of the Morphosis series, in 1989, the Los Angeles-based firm has attained the highest levels of international acclaim as it continues to push its critical practice and progressive architecture into new territory. In the tradition of its three comprehensive and visually groundbreaking predecessors, this fourth volume features 575 illustrations in an in-depth survey of Morphosis's activity at the turn of the twenty-first century. New works presented here include the Caltrans Headquarters in Los Angeles, housing designed for New York's 2012 Olympics bid, the San Francisco Federal Office Building, the Wayne L. Morse United States Courthouse in Eugene, Oregon, and major academic projects in Toronto and Cincinnati, as well as a New Academic Building for The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science & Art in New York City. Acknowledgments Creating a book, like a building, involves many people - and this one took more than most. Mark and I would like to thank the whole team for their equal amounts of creativity, criticism, passion, and patience during the design and production process: Charles Miers and Meera Deean of Rizzoli; Kjell Ekhorn and Jon Forss of Non-Format; Noah Olmsted, Claudina Mercado, Courtney Graham, and Marissa Levin of Imaginary Forces; and Jackilin Bloom of Greg Lynn FORM, who has been the constant presence behind nearly all the projects in this book. Guiding -or, more accurately, herding - this team were our superheroes Dung Ngo of Rizzoli and Adam Fure of Greg Lynn FORM. A special gratitude extends to Robert Violette for his vision throughout the development of the book; without him we'd never have got to the end because we wouldn't have known where to start. Thanks also to Hussein Chalayan, Jane Cohan, Leonard Comess, Ian Davies, Roxy Paine, Elena Sironi, David Terrien, Claire Walsh, and Tom Watt, without whom various things might have gone badly; and especially to my family of design and art history confabulators: Irving and Marilyn Lavin; and Eric, James, and Dee Lynn. This whole endeavor would not have been possible without by a group of diverse contributors: Ari Marcopoulos, Chris Bangle, Rene Daalder, Sonia Eram, Peter Frankfurt, Jeffrey Kipnis, Sylvia Lavin, Ross Lovegrove, and Peter Shroder-all dear friends, colleagues, and provocateurs. A warm thanks to Richard Weinstein, Wolf Prix, Peter Eisenman, Frank Gehry, and Herbert Muschamp for their advice, support, friendship, and generosity in discussing the book and everything else. Most of all, I'd like to thank everyone from the office over the years, they have brought the content on these pages to life.

Gregotti & Associates. The Architecture of Urban Design
This book is a thorough survey of the career of Vittorio Gregotti, founder and principal of the world-renowned Gregotti Associati, to be published on the occasion of his eightieth birthday. It highlights his most important projects in architecture, urban design, and graphic design. Among the projects featured in this comprehensive monograph are: the new municipal building in Moscow, an archeological museum in Patras, Greece, two stadiums in Morocco, the new opera house in Aix-en-Provence, the design of the city hall and the new city center in Nice, and a new building for Air France outside Paris. However, the designs that take the spotlight are the ones Gregotti has conceived in China. In Pujiang (near Shanghai), he created the master plan for a new town inspired by the classical beauty of Italy. Pujiang brings pure Italian style to the heart of a new China.

Jodidio Philip, Strong Janet Adams I.M. Pei
When I. M. Pei was awarded the Pritzker Prize in 1983, the jury said he had "given this century some of its most beautiful interior spaces and exterior forms." I. M. Pei: Complete Works, the first and definitive survey of the master architect, attests to this statement by showcasing Pei's transcendent, sculptural forms in over fifty projects and more than 300 illustrations, culminating in the last works he is currently completing. Often working in a spare geometry with a palette of stone, concrete, glass, and steel, Pei-who began his career pioneering public housing projects in New York City-has taken his vision of modern architecture across the globe with commissions in locations as diverse as Quatar, China, Luxembourg, Japan, and Germany. Meanwhile, major projects such as the JFK Library in Boston and the East Building of the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., have made him a household name in the United States. Jewerly International vol. II
The second volume of Jewelry International picks up where the first one left off, initiating the reader into the luxurious, ancient world of gold and precious jewels. The history of gold is explored in depth, from its importance in antiquity and cultures all over the world ever since, to its use as currency, to its modern-day symbolism and cultural role, as well as its use in technology. Platinum and colored gold are also addressed. The other chapter, on emeralds, rubies, sapphires and diamonds, examines the role these stones have played throughout history, tells the stories of some particularly well-known examples, and touches on their physical properties. The remainder of the book is devoted to the most exclusive brands in the world of Haute Jewelry: Bulgari graces the cover, and the Haute Jewelry collections of Andreoli, Audemars Piguet, Bayco, Chopard, de Grisogono, Guy Ellia, La Reina, Leviev, Montblanc, Oliva, Piaget, Waskoll and Yvel are all shown to dramatic effect. Feaver William Lucian Freud
This volume, with more than 400 reproductions, will be the most comprehensive publication to date on Lucian Freud, covering a span of seventy years and including many works not previously reproduced. The result is a corpus of great works that reveal him to be the premier heir today of Rembrandt, Courbet, and Cezanne. The book includes not only Freud's paintings but also his sketches, woodcuts, and powerful etchings. While the bulk of his paintings are female nudes, his cityscapes, plant studies, and interiors, executed in his distinctive muted palette and visible brushwork, are all included. Freud, who has lived in London ever since his family left Berlin in 1933 when he was ten, has achieved preeminence through his ruthless perception of the human form. His importance has long been recognized in England, but his present super-celebrity status dates from a retrospective at the Hirshhorn in Washington, D.C., in 1987. William Feaver, painter and for many years art critic for The Observer, provides a unique account of Freud's preoccupations and achievement. Startling, moving, profoundly entertaining, the book lives up to Freud's advice to students when getting them to paint self-portraits: "To try and make it the most revealing, telling, and believable object. Something really shameless, you know."
